Out-Patient Renal Clinic
Learning Objectives
It is the goal of the out-patient Nephrology Clinic rotation that the Resident:
Understand the presentation, pathophysiology, common causes and complications of, the work-up of, and general treatment strategies for the more common acute and chronic kidney diseases with a focus on diabetic nephropathy, “hypertensive nephrosclerosis”, interstitial renal diseases, idiopathic and secondary glomerular diseases, and the more common genetic renal diseases.
Understand the presentation, pathophysiology, common causes, and common complications of end-stage renal disease and the associated evaluation and treatment of associated hypertension, anemia and osteodystrophy.
Understand the basics of hemodialysis, access options and any associated complications
Understand the basics of peritoneal dialysis and any associated complications
Understand the basics of renal transplant candidacy evaluation
